Maine Completes Day One of URI Invite.

KINGSTON, R.I.- The University of Maine swimming and diving teams completed day one of the URI Invitational. Both the men and women had strong showings. The men lead the way in first place after day one and the women are in second. Senior Diver Kara Capossela (Greenwich, Conn.) continued her undefeated season. On the men's side David Vittori (South Berwick, Maine), Brent Williams (Clifton, Maine) and John McLeod had strong finishes.
Capossela continued her streak by winning the one-meter diving with a score of 230.95 followed by teammate Hayli Weitz in second place 200.10. For the men freshman diver Ethan Eckhoff (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished fifth in the three-meter (176.95).
Shannon Bender had a eighth place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:14.68). Senior Lauren Dwyer (Orono, Maine) finished fourth in the 200 IM (2:12.29). Naja Harvey
finished eighth in the 50-yard freestyle (24.83).
For the men Vittori finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with his best time of the season (4:44.47). Brent Williams placed third in the event with a time of (4:54.46). Cody Lachance followed in fifth place (4:55.98).
The men paced the 200-yard IM with Connor Devers (North Attleboro, Mass) finishing second (1:58.60) followed by teammates John Carlucci (Danbury, Conn.) in third (1:59.11) and Ryan Fahey in fourth (1:59.97)
John McLeod and Shane Kinnon (Malden, Mass) had a strong finishes in the 50-yard freestyle placing third and fourth. McLeod touched for third at (22.33) while Kinnon nabbed fourth place (22.40).
Maine returns home against Bates on Dec.7th.
