Brown Swimming Takes Two from Black Bears.

PROVIDENCE, RI- The University of Maine swimming and diving teams competing against Brown University on Saturday in Providence lost two, as the Maine women fell 198-97 while the men were stopped 226-55. Maine had strong showings for both teams.

Black Bear junior Naja Harvey (Orono, Minn.) collected a win in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.20). Teammate Shannon Bender (Cumberland, RI) raced a strong second half of the 200-yard freestyle to finish second (1:58.5) five tenths of a second behind the winner.

Senior Lauren Dwyer (Orono, Maine) also claimed a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.08). In the 100-yard butterfly Erica Smrcina (North Falmouth, Mass.) finished third (58.72) and also earned a second place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:18.28) followed by teammate Sammy Mathieu (Oakland, Maine) in third (2:19.00) Kayla Merchant (Sebec, Maine) touched for second place in the 500-yard freestyle (5:31.81) followed by freshman Kailey Dowd (Mendon, Mass.) in third (5:35.87).

Senior diver Kara Capossela continues her undefeated streak with two wins in the one-meter (249.81) and the three-meter (263.26)

On the men's side Matt England (Bangor, Maine) had strong showings finishing second in the 100-yard backstroke (52.92) and touched for third place in the 200-yard IM(2:04.70) behind Cameron Dwyer (Orono, Maine) who collected a second place finish (2:01.90).

Junior Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Mass) placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:57.67) followed by teammate Tim Edison (Westford, Mass.) with third place (5:02.78).

Maine swimming and diving continues their season at the URI invitational on Nov. 22^nd.
