
Gibbs Drafted in Ninth Round By Arizona Diamondbacks

ORONO, Maine-- University of Maine baseball junior pitcher Jeffrey Gibbs (Toronto, Ontario) was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the ninth round, 303rd overall, on Tuesday afternoon in the 2012 MLB Entry Draft.
Gibbs has seen action in 42 games for the Black Bears, making 39 career starts. He is 16-13 in his career with a 5.02 ERA with three complete games. Gibbs has pitched 211.2 innings for Maine, striking out 197 batters.
As a freshman, he was 5-4 with a 3.94 ERA. He was named to the America East Second Team and also earned America East All-Rookie Team honors. He earned a win over #11 North Carolina his freshman season.
As a sophomore, Gibbs finished 8-5 with a 3.42 ERA earning a second straight spot on the America East Second Team. He struck out 69 batters on the season. Gibbs earned a victory over 20th ranked Florida International University in the Chapel Hil l Regional of the NCAA Tournament.
As a junior, Gibbs finished 3-4 this season. Again, he led the team in strikeouts, with 56 on the season. He recorded a 10-0 victory of Albany in America East Conference play earlier this season.
Gibbs becomes the third Black Bears in the past two seasons to be drafted. Taylor Lewis and Keith Bilodeau were both drafted in the 2011 MLB Entry Draft last season.
