Chloe Tinkler and Jennifer More Named 2012-2013 Women's Ice Hockey Captains

ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine women's ice hockey coach Maria Lewis has announced that her program has selected Chloe Tinkler (Wabush, Newfoundland) and Jennifer More (Deloraine, Manitoba) as captains for the 2012-2013 season. Tinkler will be a senior in the fall, while More will be a sophomore.
"Our players chose two exceptional individuals to lead our team this coming season," said head coach Maria Lewis. "Both demonstrate a team first attitude, a strong work ethic, and the ability to take over the roles and responsibilities of our outgoing captains, Dawn Sullivan and Ashley Norum."
"Chloe will wear the 'C' and has become the vocal leader in the locker room. With her experiences over the past three years, she fully understands our mission and will be a great role model for our incoming players. Jenn will wear the 'A' and although she may only be in her second year, she leads by example through her hard work and dedication. With such a young team of mostly sophomores and freshmen, we are very fortunate to have a player emerge within that group who will be able to provide leadership stability over the next three years," said Lewis.
"Although Chloe and Jenn garnered the most votes, a number of players were recognized by their teammates which is very telling of the character and team commitment that can be found throughout our roster. Especially among our other three seniors Kylie Smith, Brittany Ott, and Brittany Dougherty who will be heavily relied upon for leadership as well."
Tinkler, a defender, has played in 99 career games for the Black Bears, the most of any returning player for the upcoming season. She helped lead the Maine defense last season which allowed just 83 goals, the fewest in the past six seasons. Tinkler also chipped in on offensive, tallying a goal and dishing out seven assists for eight points. Her +19 ranking led all Black Bears. Tinkler is a Maine Scholar-Athlete Award winner and has been named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team.
More becomes the first sophomore captain in the history of the program. She played in all 34 games for the Black Bears as a rookie and scored seven goals and added nine assists for 16 points. Her 16 points were tied for the most among freshmen. She tallied an assist in her collegiate debut against Sacred Heart and followed that up with a pair of goals the following day against the Pioneers to garner Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors. She scored a pair of goals and dished out an assist for her first career three-point game in Maine's 5-2 win at Boston University on Jan. 15, a team that went on to compete in the NCAA Tournament. More was named a Maine Scholar-Athlete *Rising Star* this past winter at the scholar-athlete awards ceremony.
In addition to Tinkler and More, the Black Bears several other veteran players on the squad who are expected to provide leadership for the upcoming season. Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Mich.) led Maine in scoring a year ago with 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points. A Women's Hockey East Second Team selection, Dougherty has participated in several US National Team Camps.
The Black Bears return a pair of seniors in goal. Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) was a Hockey East Honorable Mention selection this past season. She finished 13-10-3 with a 2.34 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. Maine also has Kylie Smith returning between the pipes who recorded just one loss in eight games a year ago. The aforementioned trio will provide additional leadership for the Black Bears, who are bringing in a large recruiting class.
