
Women's Hoops Travels to Meet Bryant on Monday Evening

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team (1-8) continues on the road and looks to snap its current five game losing skid as it meets Bryant (3-4) for the third time in as many years.
The Black Bears enter today looking to get back to their winning ways after dropping a 51-38 decision against Rhode Island in a neutral site game held at the Portland Expo in Portland, Maine. Ashleigh Roberts (Wilmington, Del.) paced the Maine offense in the game as she scored 14 points, the 38th time in her career she has scored in double-figures.
Maine comes into the game averaging 54.4 PPG while giving up 68.8. The Black Bears are shooting 36.8% from the field, 27.5% from beyond the arc and 68.1% from the free throw line. Maine is pulling down 36.6 rebounds per game while averaging 12.6 assists and 7.3 steals.
Junior guard Ashleigh Roberts leads the Black Bears in scoring as she is netting 12.1 PPG while pulling down 4.4 RPG. Sophomore forward Danielle Walczak (Lee, N.H.) is contributing 8.3 PPG with 3.8 RPG and leads Maine with a 46.8% mark from the field. Freshman Liz Wood (Catlett, Va.) is averaging 8.0 PPG and leads the team with 5.3 RPG. Wood has scored in double-figures in two of her last three games and has also tallied at least two three-pointers in three of her last four games. Freshman center Anna Heise (Halle, Germany) is averaging 6.4 PPG and 3.8 RPG and leads the team in free-throw shooting at 88.2%. Brittany Wells (Indianapolis, In.) is chipping in 5.4 PPG while sophomore point guard Courtney Anderson (Greene, Maine) is averaging 5.0 PPG and 1.6 assists. Fellow point guard Sophie Weckstrom (Espoo, Finland) is tallying 3.4 PPG and a team-high 2.3 assists.
The Bulldogs enter the game at 3-4 and are currently riding a three game winning streak with wins at Brown, over Columbia and in overtime against Iona. Last time out, Bryant defeated Iona College 77-71 in overtime. Jenniqua Bailey led the Bulldogs' attack with a career-high 22 points while two other scorers tallied double-figures. Bryant is averaging 63.4 PPG while shooting 40.8% from the field, 30.4% from three-point range and 64.3% from the free throw line while bringing down 44.3 rebounds per game. Naana Ankoma-Mensa leads the Bulldog attack as she is averaging a double-double per game with 12.3 points and 11.4 rebounds. Courtney Schissler is netting 12.0 PPG to go along with 8.4 rebounds while Danielle Douglas is netting 9.6 PPG while Jenniqua Bailey is chipping in 7.1 PPG and a team-high 3.7 assists.
This will be the third all-time meeting between Maine and Bryant and the third in as many years. The Black Bears won the first ever meeting on Nov. 19, 2010 at Bryant by a score of 75-66 but dropped last season's meeting in Orono 65-53, also on Nov. 19 in 2011. Ashleigh Roberts is averaging double-figures against the Bulldogs as she tallied 12 points in the win in 2010 and 10 points in last season's meeting.
