
Leithiser, Del Duca and Reed Lead Maine to Victory

Durham, N.H. – The University of Maine men's track and field team took first place in this weekends meet against the University of New Hampshire by a score of 102 to 89. Frank Del Duca (Bethel, Maine) Kelton Cullenberg (Chesterville, Maine) James Reed (Garmisch, Germany) and Jake Leithiser (Old Town, Maine) all placed first in key events to lead Maine in the victory.
Leithiser took first overall in the Heptathlon with a top-10 school mark of 4767 points. In the second day of the Heptathlon event, Leithiser placed second in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.20, third in the pole vault with a vault of 10-06.00, and first in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:45.31. Matthew Toothaker (Newburgh, Maine) placed second in the Heptathlon with a top-10 school record of 4760 points and James Rutter (Portland, Maine) took third place in the heptathlon with a top-10 school record of 4519 points.
Del Duca placed first in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.54, first in the 200 meter run with a time of 23.18, and first in the long jump with a leap of 22-04.50. Paul Kelley (Hopkinton, Massachusetts) placed second in the 400 meter run with a time of 51.87, Logan Nee (Cornish, Maine) took third place in the 500 meter run in a time of 1:11.51, Greg O'Donnell (Hampden, Maine) placed second in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:01.79, and Liam Nee (Cornish, Maine) saw a second place finish in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:36.13.
Cullenberg took first place in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:35.97, Alex Moser (York Harbor, Maine) placed second in the one mile run with a time of 4:19.51, and Reed took first in the 55 meter hurdles in a top-10 school record time of 7.52.
Tyler Martin placed first in the high jump with a leap of 6-04.25, Nathan Meade (Waldoboro, Maine) placed first in the triple jump with a top-10 school record of 46-01.50, and Herby Lafortune (Somerville, Massachusetts) took second in the triple jump with a top-10 school record of 44-06.00.
Justin Gagne (Biddeford, Maine) placed first in the shot put with a top-10 school record of 55-07.50, Donald Clark (Winslow, Maine) took second place in the shot put with a top-10 school record of 54-06.00, and Brian Woodbury (Scarborough, Maine) placed third in the shot put with a top-10 school record of 50-02.00.
The men's track and field team will return to competition on January 18 and 19 as they travel to Bates College for a two-day meet. Multi-events competition is slated to get underway at 5:00 PM and Friday with running and field events beginning at 12:00 PM on Saturday.
