Women's Basketball to Meet Siena Wednesday on Time Warner Cable

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team (1-6) continues road action as it travels to take on Siena (2-5) on Wednesday evening at 6 PM in a game broadcast locally on the Time Warner Cable network in Maine. The game will be seen throughout the Time Warner Cable service area in all of Maine and portions of New Hampshire. In Maine the channel will be TWCTV Channel 9 and in New Hampshire the channel will be TWCTV channels 21 or 22, depending upon location.
The Black Bears will look to snap their losing skid as they are coming off a 79-49 loss at Florida Gulf Coast this past Saturday. Liz Wood led Maine as she tallied a double-double, the first of her career and the first for the Black Bears this season, with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Danielle Walczak added nine points while Sophie Weckstrom netted eight including a pair of three-pointers. Maine was able to outrebound FGCU by a 48-36 margin.
Maine enters the contest averaging 57.4 PPG while shooting 37.7% from the field, 28.3% from beyond the arc and 71.4% from the free throw line. The Black Bears are averaging 37.9 rebounds per game and 13.3 assists.
Ashleigh Roberts leads the Black Bears offense as she is averaging 12.7 PPG to go along with 4.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists with a team-high 11 total steals. Danielle Walczak is chipping in 9.5 PPG and is tied for the team lead in rebounds at 5.0 per game. Walczak's 51.5% shooting mark from the field is tops amongst the Black Bears. Freshmen Liz Wood, the current America East Rookie of the Week, is adding 7.7 PPG and is also tied for the team-lead with Walczak in rebounding (5.0). Wood, leading the team with 29.3 minutes per game, has hit at least two three-pointers in three of her last four games, including her last two straight. Fellow freshman Anna Heise is averaging 6.4 PPG with 4.0 rebounds while Brittany Wells is chipping in 6.1 points. Courtney Anderson is netting 5.3 PPG with 1.4 assists while fellow point guard Sophie Weckstrom is adding 4.0 PPG and a team-high 2.7 assists.
Siena enters the contest at 2-5 after dropping its last contest to America East conference member Albany by a score of 65-48. Tehresa Coles led the Saints in the loss as she tallied 13 points while Lily Grenci added eight points and three rebounds while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. The Saints are averaging 52.9 points per game while giving up 56.1. Siena shoots 32.1% from the field, 28.9% from three-point range and 73.9% from the charity stripe while pulling down 36.9 rebounds per game. Senior forward Lily Grenci, a preseason MAAC first team selection, leads the Saints' attack as she is averaging team-highs in both points (14.0) and rebounds (8.6). Tehresa Coles is chipping in 8.0 points and leads the squad in both steals (24) and assists (16). Clara Sole Anglada is adding 7.0 PPG with 5.0 rebounds and 14 steals while Kate Zarotney is netting 6.6 PPG with 5.0 rebounds. Siena returns 11 letterwinners and three starters from last season's 12-17 squad which finished fourth in the MAAC (9-9).
This will be the seventh overall meeting between Maine and Siena as the Black Bears hold a 4-2 advantage in the series. Prior to dropping last season's contest 78-51 to the Saints, Maine had won the previous four meetings. Maine dropped the first ever meeting between the two squads by a score of 55-52 back on Dec. 1, 1984. Maine's last win against Siena came on Feb. 18, 1991 (81-55). Danielle Walczak led the Black Bears in Maine and Siena's meeting last season as she tallied 13 points and six rebounds. Courtney Anderson notched her current career-high of seven assists in the game. Siena shot 49.2% from the field in the win and was led by Lily Grenci's 20 points. The Saints had four scorers in double-figures.
