Swimming Competes in Dual Meet Against Boston College and Liberty

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The University of Maine swimming and diving teams competed in a dual meet on Friday evening at Boston College against the Eagles and Liberty University. Sergey Terrio (Oakland, Maine) and Jenn Trodden (Reading, Mass.) each won swimming events for Maine while Kara Capossela (Greenwich, Conn.) swept the diving events for the women.
Trodden took first place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:12.82 after the top finisher was disqualified. Naja Harvey (Orono, Minn.) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:07.32 and was fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.46. Courtney Norman (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle and was third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.55). Erica Smrcina (North Falmouth, Mass.) was second in the in the 100-yard fly (58.52) and fourth in the 200-yard fly (2:10.74). Carmen Linden (Ottawa, Ontario) was third in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:19.34 while Lauren Dwyer (Orono, Maine) finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.14) and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.04).
Capossela swept the diving events for the women as she placed first in both the one-meter (239.70) and the three-meter (252.45).
On the men's side, Terrio placed first in the 200-yard fly at 1:59.91 and was third in the 100-yard fly with a time of 54.58. David Vittori (South Berwick, Maine) was second in both the 1000-yard freestyle (10:15.91) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:54.64) while placing fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.61). Matt England (Bangor, Maine) finished second in both the 100-yard backstroke (55.79) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.65). Shane Kinnon (Malden, Mass.) was second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.78) and was fourth in the 200-yard IM (2:06.08). Caleb Hoffman (Waterville, Maine) finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.82) and was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.12).
Travis Wibby (South Portland, Maine) paced the men's squad on the diving boards with a pair of third place finishes. Wibby placed third in the one-meter (198.00) and was also third in the three-meter (174.97).
The women's team resumes action on Nov. 10 when they host Vermont at 12 PM while the men's team returns to the pool when they take part in the URI Invitational, a two-day meet beginning on Nov. 30 at 5 PM.
