Coach Barron to Participate in Annual 4Kay Golf Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- University of Maine women's basketball head coach Richard Barron will be participating in the fourth annual 4Kay Golf Classic which takes place in Greensboro, N.C. on Sunday, Sept. 11 and Monday, Sept. 12. Coach Barron is a member of the 4Kay Foundations Golf Committee.
The 4Kay Golf Classic is an annual event where, "coaches, fans and administrators can come together in camaraderie and engage in some friendly competition while raising money for scientific research" against breast cancer.
The first ever 4Kay Golf Classic took place at the Cowboys Golf Club in Dallas, Texas. During this first tournament, $143,000 was raised for the Kay Yow Cancer foundation, with 170 members attending. Last season, the classic, and all who partcipated, were able to raise over $171,000 for this great cause.
Kay Yow, former North Carolina State head basketball coach, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and fought the disease until her death on Jan. 29, 2009. This wonderful event takes place each year in Coach Yow's name, continuing to raise money on the way to ending this terrible disease.
