Taylor Lewis Selected in 10th Round by Pittsburgh Pirates

ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine junior center fielder Taylor Lewis (Montville, Conn.) has been selected as the first pick in the 10th round of the 2011 MLB Entry Draft. Lewis, who just completed his junior season with the Black Bears, was the 302nd overall pick in the draft.
Lewis saw action in 148 games with the Black Bears the previous three years starting 131. He batted .321 with 118 runs scored and 92 RBI. He had 25 doubles, 20 triples and 10 home runs. He also stole 41 bases in three years. His 13 triples as a junior set a school and America East record. He broke the previous record of five set in 1932 by Amel Kizonak.
This year, Lewis was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2011 America East Tournament. He also earned a spot on the America East All-Tournament Team. In 2010, he was named to the America East First Team.
Lewis was a tri-captain this season and led the Black Bears to the 2011 America East Championship and a spot in the NCAA Regionals.
Lewis has been named a Maine Scholar-Athlete Award winner and also named to the America East Academic Honor Roll.
