Men's Swimming Defeats Bryant 135-127

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The University of Maine swimming team defeated Bryant University 135-127 on Sunday afternoon. Yuri Chornobil (Rochester, N.Y.), Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Mass.), Brian Landry (Yorktown, Va.) and Andrew Meehan (Brewer, Maine) each picked up individual victories for the Black Bears.
Landry was tops among the men as he won the 200 yard breaststroke event in 2:11.53 and was second in both the 100 yard breaststroke (1:01.42) and the 200 yard IM (2:05.01). Landry's time in the 200 yard breaststroke was a new pool record at Bryant. Newcomer Fahey picked up a win, a second and a third place finish on Sunday. Fahey won the 200 yard backstroke event in 2:02.72, was second in the 200 yard fly with a time of 2:05.59 and was third in the 1000 yard freestyle at 10:24.53.
Chornobil was tops in the distance races for Maine as he won the 500 yard freestyle, touching the wall at 4:56.95 and was second, just ahead of Fahey, in the 1000 yard freestyle with at time of 10:16.64. Meehan won the 100 yard fly event with a time of 53.62 and was second in the 50 freestyle event at 22.42.
Fahey, Landry, Chornobil and Meehan picked up their wins in that order, taking four wins in a row to help the Black Bears clinch the victories.
The Black Bears swept the relay events as Connor Devers (North Attleboro, Mass.), Landry, Meehan and Daniel Duvall (Durham, N.H.) combined for the win in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:39.70. Meehan, Joey Quinn (Bangor, Maine), Chornobil and Duvall picked up the win in the 200 yard freestyle relay, as Duvall closed things out by touching the wall at 1:29.79.
The Black Bears return to action as they host URI at Wallace Pool on Saturday, Oct. 29 starting at 11 a.m.
