
Ward Named Hockey East Co-Player of the Week

WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- University of Maine women's ice hockey player Danielle Ward (Lansing, Mich.) was named the Hockey East Co-Player of the Week on Monday. She scored three goals in Maine's weekend sweep of then #9 Quinnipiac. Maine also earned Team of the Week honors for its sweep over the Bobcats.
Ward scored a goal midway through the second period on Friday as the Black Bears pulled to within one goal at 3-2. The Black Bears netted a pair of third period goals to earn the 4-3 victory victory.
On Saturday, Ward scored a pair of goals. She notched her first of the game at 2:24 of the third period to bring Maine to within one goal at 4-3 once again. Ward then scored the game-winner 2:32 into overtime to give Maine the 5-4 win.
The overtime game-winner was the 100th point of her career. She has tallied three of Maine's four game-winning goals on the season.
Maine improves to 4-0-0 for the first time in school history. On Monday, the Black Bears received nine votes in the USCHO.com Division I Women's Poll. The nine points puts them tied with Ohio State for 11th in the nation.
The Black Bears return home on Friday, Oct. 14 when they host Bemidji State at 7 PM at Alfond Arena.
