Barnies Leads Men's Basketball to 65-52 Win Over Boston University

ORONO, Maine--Troy Barnies (Auburn, Maine) had 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds to lead Maine to a 65-52 win over Boston University on Sunday afternoon in the America East Conference opener for both teams. Maine is now 7-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play while Boston University fell to 5-10 and 0-1 in league play.
Maine took a 7-4 lead when Barnies got the ball on the right block and made a nice dish to Alasdair Fraser (Falkirk, Scotland) on the left block for the layup.
Terrance Mitchell (Milton, Fla.) would get fouled on a three, and made all three from the charity stripe to give Maine a 12-7 lead just under 11 minutes left in the first half.
Maine would take a 17-10 lead when Mitchell found an open Murphy Burnatowski (Waterloo, Ontario) for a nice alley-oop dunk. Mitchell then made a three from the corner to put the Black Bears up 22-10 with seven minutes left.
The Black Bears continued to apply the pressure, and would take a 31-18 lead into halftime.
Burnatowski and Gerald McLemore (San Diego, Calif.) each had seven points in the first half to lead Maine. Raheem Singleton (Boston, Mass.) dished out for assists.
Maine shot 39.3 percent in the first half while holding Boston University to 25 percent shooting.
The Terriers opened the second stanza on a run, and made it 31-28 before the Black Bears answered to make it 35-28 five minutes into the second half. After a Terrier basket, Mitchell answered with a tough layup to make it a seven-point lead.
The Terriers made a pair of three-pointers to close the Black Bear lead to one, but McLemore responded with a triecta of his own.
Boston University answered to close the gap to 41-38, but Barnies scored seven-straight points to push the lead to 10 with six minutes left, and the Terriers could get no closer than seven the rest of the way.
McLemore finished with a team-high 16 points and grabbed four rebounds while Mitchell finished with 15.
Maine grabbed 39 rebounds to Boston University's 29.
Darryl Partin was named the Terriers' America East Player of the Game as he scored a game-high 20 points.
The Black Bears return to action on Wednesday when they host Hartford at 7 p.m.
