Women's Hockey Falls at Boston University, 5-2

BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team dropped a 5-2 decision to #3 Boston University on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops Maine to 9-11-4 on the season while the Terriers improve to 18-2-3 overall. Myriam Croussette (Baie-Comeau, Quebec) and Dawn Sullivan (Enfield, Nova Scotia) each scored for the Black Bears.
After falling behind 2-0 early in the first period, Croussette would put the Black Bears on the board, 3:58 into the game. Sophomore Chloe Tinkler (Wabush, Newfoundland) started the play by hitting Gallo with a pass. Gallo would find Croussette who lit the lamp for her tenth goal of the season.
The Terriers would regain a two goal advantage, 6:40 into the first period when Jenelle Kohanchuk beat Maine goaltender Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) for a power play goal.
The Black Bears would answer 11:06 into the period with a power play goal of their own. Kayla Kaluzny (Calgary, Alberta) worked the puck in the zone to Danielle Ward (Lansing, Mich.). Ward would hit captain Sullivan with a pass as Sullivan fired a shot past Boston University goaltender Alissa Fromkin for Maine's second goal of the afternoon.
The Black Bears would fight hard the rest of the way, putting 17 more shots on Fromkin but after Boston University added a goal in the second period by Marie-Philip Poulin and a third period tally by Taylor Holze to take the Hockey East contest, 5-2.
Ott made 37 stops in net for the Black Bears but takes the loss, falling to 7-10-3 on the season. Fromkin made 23 saves in the win for Boston University. The Terriers outshot Maine 42-25 in the game and were 1-4 on the power play while the Black Bears finished 1-5 with the extra skater.
Maine returns to action next Friday when it hosts UConn at 5 p.m. at Alfond Arena. Maine and UConn will square off on Saturday at 12 p.m. in Maine's annual Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer game.
