Troy Barnies Leads Men's Basketball to 77-51 Win Over BInghamton

ORONO, Maine--Troy Barnies (Auburn, Maine) scored a game-high 21 points and added nine rebounds to lead the University of Maine men's basketball team to a 77-51 win over Binghamton on Saturday afternoon at the Alfond Arena. Maine improves to 10-7 overall and 4-1 in America East play while Binghamton falls to 6-11 and 3-1 in league play.
The two teams were in a tight contest midway through the first half, with the Black Bears leading 21-19 with 9:52 left. Maine then exploded for a 14-to-2 run, courtesy of five points each from Gerald McLemore (San Diego, Calif.) and Mike Allison (Lyndon, Ontario) to take a 35-21 lead with just under five minutes left in the half.
The Black Bears and Bearcats would trade baskets the rest of the way, and Maine took a 43-28 lead into halftime. Binghamton would not get closer than 15 points after halftime.
Maine was led in the first half by Barnies who had 14 points and six rebounds while McLemore added 10 points and Allison five points and three rebounds.
Barnies started off the second half with a three-pointer, and the Black Bears proceeded to outscore the Bearcats 24-8 through the next 11 minutes to build a 70-36 lead with 6:26 left in the game. Maine would cruise the rest of the way for the win.
McLemore would finish with 15 points, three assists and two steals while freshman Alasdair Fraser (Falkirk, Scotland) added nine points, six rebounds and two blocks. Allison finished with seven points, five rebounds and a block.
Barnies was named Maine's America East Player of the Game for his efforts while Chretien Lukusa scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds to earn Binghamton's honor.
Maine out-rebounded Binghamton 43-34 and shot 45.2 percent form the field to Binghamton's 33.3 percent.
Maine return to action on Tuesday at Vermont. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet New England.
