Swimming and Diving Performs Well at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine - University of Maine women's and men's swimming and diving teams performed well at Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. Sara Knight (Gardiner, Maine) led the women's team while Kevin Staples (Mt. Desert, Maine) led the men's team.
Knight took first in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:18.22, came in second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.70 while also placing second as she swam the third leg in the 200 yard freestyle relay which had a time of 1:45.44. Also performing well for the women was Jennifer Trodden (Reading, Mass.) who won the 100 yard IM with a time of 1:02.58 and also took top honors in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 55.36.
Staples took top honors in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 50.97. Zachary Hamer (Andover, Mass.) also won the for the Black Bears, placing first in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 30.43.
The swimming and diving teams compete again on Friday when they host Boston College and Dartmouth in the Wallace Pool.
