Black Bears Compete Against Boston College, Dartmouth on Senior Day

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine swimming and diving teams hosted a dual meet on Friday and Saturday against Boston College and Dartmouth at Wallace Pool. The men were defeated 266-48 by Boston College and 276-52 by Dartmouth while the women dropped both of their meets by scores of 237-95 to Boston College and 238-93.50 to Dartmouth. The Black Bears honored their six seniors, Meaghann Fisher (Carmel, Ind.), Samantha Graham (Vestal, N.Y.), Nissa Marione (Wiscasset, Maine), Megan McLean (Walpole, Mass.), Kevin Staples (Mt. Desert Island, Maine), and Jamison Young (Richboro, Pa.).
The women's team had several solid finishes for the Black Bears and were led by senior Meag Fisher who captured a pair of second place finishes. Fisher was second in the 100 yard fly with a time of 59.89 and also picked up a second place finish in the 200 yard IM, touching the wall at 2:14.24. Fisher also added a third place finish in the 200 yard fly to her solid final day of competition at Wallace Pool. Jennifer Trodden (Reading, Mass.) picked up the lone win for the Black Bears when she touched the wall first in the 200 yard breaststroke event, finishing in 2:28.17. Lauren Thornbrough (San Diego, Calif.) finished second in the 1650 yard free at 10:48.17 and also placed fourth in the 200 yard fly with a time of 2:14.46. Senior diver Sam Graham grabbed a fifth place finish in the one meter event with a final score of 197.65.
On the men's side, the Black Bears were led by freshman Yuri Chornobil (Rochester, N.Y.) who had solid performances in both of the distance races for Maine. Chornobil placed fifth in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 10:05.36 and took home seventh place in the 500 yard freestyle, touching the wall at 4:53.47. Young took home seventh place in his final 100 yard backstroke event in Orono with a time of 57.56 and was followed up by fellow senior Staples who touched the wall at 58.21. Jeremy Bender (St. Paul, Minn.) took home fifth place honors in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:23.67.
The Black Bears will now prepare for the America East Championships that will take place on Feb. 25-28 in Boston, Mass.
