ORONO, Maine - Redshirt-freshman guard Rachele Burns (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) will miss the remainder of the 2010-11 season with an ACL and medial meniscus tear in her left knee. She plans to have the surgery next month in Boston and will begin the six months of rehab after that.
"The injury is a really tough break for Rachele. She has had to really fight her way back after the injuries to the right knee, and I don't think you can ever really prepare for something like that to happen," said head coach Cindy Blodgett. "We are going to support her in any way we can here in her recovery."
Burns had battled back from three reconstructive surgeries on her right knee and played in five games this season. Burns averaged 3.4 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 14.8 minutes per game. Rachele played and scored in every game after she returned to action and before the injury.
"My goal is to get healthy and go from there. It will be the same process I went through last year, but at least I got to play in five games before the injury this time," said Rachele Burns. "All I can do from here is take it day by day and work hard."
The Gorham, Maine native played in her first game since her junior season of high school and made her Maine debut against South Alabama in the Dead River Company Classic back on November 27th.
