Gerald McLemore and Terrance Mitchell Lead Men's Basketball to 78-57 Win Over Colgate

ORONO, Maine--Gerald McLemore (San Diego, Calif.) scored a game-high 15 points and Terrance Mitchell (Milton, Fla.) added 14 as the University of Maine men's basketball team defeated Colgate 78-57 on Sunday afternoon in the Alfond Arena. The Black Bears won their third-straight game and are now 5-5 on the year while Colgate falls to 0-9.
Maine raced out to a 14-2 lead seven minutes into the game courtesy of five points from Raheem Singleton (Boston, Mass.) and a pair of buckets from Troy Barnies (Auburn, Maine).
McLemore canned a three-pointer before Mitchell went off and hit four three-pointers in a span of four minutes to give the Black Bears a 31-9 lead with seven minutes left in the first half.
The teams traded baskets the rest of the way and Maine took a 40-21 lead into intermission.
Mitchell poured in 14 to lead Maine in the first half while McLemore had six points and four rebounds. Andrew Rogers (Philadelphia, Pa.) added four assists. The Black Bears went 14-for-29 from the field and outrebounded the Raiders 25-12.
Colgate would chisel away at the lead, and make it 52-42 seven minutes into the second half, but a Barnies layup and McLemore three-pointer would push the lead back to 15.
The Raiders would get no closer than 14 the rest of the way as Maine cruised to the win.
Barnies finished with 10 points, three rebounds and three assists while Murphy Burnatowski (Waterloo, Ontario) added 13 points and four rebounds. Freshman Alasdair Fraser (Falkirk, Scotland) scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds to go with two blocks.
Maine won the rebounding battle 41-26 and went 26-for-53 from the field, including 11-of-20 from long range while holding Colgate to 19-of-50 from the floor.
McLemore was named the America East Player of the Game for his efforts.
Pat Moore led Colgate with 13 points.
The Black Bears return to action on Tuesday at Penn State.
