Men's Ice Hockey Falls at Boston College 4-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --- Mark Nemec (Rouses Point, N.Y.) notched his first goal of the season, but it was not enough as the University of Maine men's ice hockey team fell to Boston College 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum in Chestbnut Hill, Mass. The Black Bears fall to 6-3-3 on the season with the loss and 4-2-1 in Hockey East play. Boston College improves to 8-4-0 overal and 6-3-0 in conference play.
Boston College took an early 1-0 lead with a power play goal just 2:02 into the game. Cam Atkinson had a shot from just inside the blueline that Maine goalie Dan Sullivan (York, Pa.) saved, but the rebound went right to Paul Carey who beat Sullivan for his third goal of the season.
Maine tied the game at 1-1 at 12:56 of the second period. Ryan Hegarty (Arlington, Mass.) picked off a BC pass and found Mark Nemec on the blueline. Nemec fired a shot past Boston College goalie John Muse to knot the score at 1-1. For Nemec, it was his first goal of the season.
The Eagles took the lead back at 18:28 when Bill Arnold received a pass from Steven Whitney and fired the puck past Sullivan from just inside the goal line. Boston College made it 3-1 at 19:08 when Paul Carey got the rebound of his own shot and shot the puck past Sullivan. Cam Atkinson and Philip Samuelsson each assisted on the goal which gave the Eagles a 3-1 lead.
BC added an empty-net goal at 17-51 by Barry Almeida to earn the 4-1 victory.
Maine goalie Dan Sullivan made 19 saves in goal. He falls to 4-3-1 on the season. John Muse made 38 saves for the Eagles. He improves to 7-2-0 on the season.
Maine finished the game with a commanding 39-23 advantage in shots on goal. The Black Bears were 0-for-5 on the power play, while Boston College finished the game 1-for-3.
The Black Bears have Thanksgiving weekend off, before returning to action on Dec. 3 and 4 when they travel to Providence for a two-game set with the Friars.
