
2010 NFL Season Black Bear Update

ORONO, Maine--There are currently seven former Black Bears on NFL rosters, below is an update on each one.
Jovan Belcher (class of 2009) - Kansas City Chiefs - LB
Belcher has helped lead the Chiefs to a 3-0 record, the last remaining undefeated team in the National Football League. He is is coming off a 10-tackle performance in the Chiefs' 31-10 win over the San Francisco 49ers in week three. Belcher is second on the team with 21 tackles after having started all three games so far.
Mike DeVito ('06) - New York Jets - DE
DeVito has started a pair of games this season while notching 16 tackles. He has helped lead the Jets during their three-game win streak, and currently sit atop the AFC East standing with a 3-1 record.
Matthew Mulligan ('08) - New York Jets - TE
Mulligan has earned one start while playing in all four games for the Jets this season. Used primarily as a blocking tight end, Mulligan has helped lead the Jets to the second-most productive rushing offense so far this season. Mulligan is also a fixture on special teams for Coach Rex Ryan.
Stephen Cooper ('03) - San Diego Chargers - LB
Cooper, coming off leading the Chargers for the third-straight season in tackles with 119, has started both games he has played in this season. The Chargers are allowing the second-fewest total yards in the NFL this season. San Diego is currently in second place in the AFC West, just behind Belcher's Chiefs.
Montell Owens ('06) - Jacksonville Jaguars - FB
Owens, named the 2009 first alternate for the Pro Bowl, has made three tackles on special teams so far for the Jaguars. He has helped lead the Jaguars to second place in the AFC South.
Brandon McGowan ('05) - New England Patriots - S
In 2009, McGowan saw action in all 16 games, starting in 11. He notched a career-high 66 tackles, broke up 10 passes, forced three fumbles and recovered one. Unfortunately, his 2010 campaign has been cut short due to a torn pectoral muscle. He is currently trying to get better for the 2011 season.
Lofa Tatupu ('01) - Seattle Seahawks - LB
Tatupu has started all four games this season, and all 72 games for his career. His 25 tackles put him third on the Seahawks this season. Seattle is tied for first place in the NFC West.
