The Harold Alfond Sports Arena and Shawn Walsh Hockey Center serve as the home of Maine men's and women's ice hockey. Originally opened in 1977, the facility has long been recognized as one of college hockey's most iconic venues. In 2025, the arena and hockey center underwent a transformative renovation and expansion as part of the University of Maine Athletics Facilities Master Plan, creating one of the premier hockey facilities in Hockey East while preserving the unique atmosphere that has defined Maine Hockey for generations.

Connected directly to Alfond Arena, the Shawn Walsh Hockey Center serves as the daily training, development and operations hub for Maine Hockey.
Completed in 2025, the project included a 13,000-square-foot expansion and significant renovations to existing spaces, creating a modern environment for student-athlete development and performance.
