About the Black Bears
• Ben Barr was named the fifth head coach of the University of Maine men's ice hockey program. Barr comes to Orono after spending the previous five seasons at the University of Massachusetts, winning one national championship.
• The Black Bears hosted the most recent chapter of the 'Border Battle' last weekend. Maine set the Alfond on fire with a 6-3 victory Friday night, scoring four goals in the first period. UNH salvaged a win on Saturday night with a five goal performance.
• The Black Bears enter the season with six new faces on the roster after seeing five players graduate or leave to pursue professional hockey.
• Four incoming freshmen and two transfers make up players who were added by the new coaching staff. Three of the incoming student athletes are from the United States, while the other three are from Canada.
• The three-member Class of 2025 includes Tim Gould, Nolan Renwick, Samuel Duerr, and David Breazeale. Matthew Fawcett and Grant Hebert are the three transfers who chose the University of Maine over their other offers.
About the Terriers
• Boston University finished the 2020-21 season with a record of 10-5-1, ultimately earning an At-Large bid to the NCAA tournament and being defeated by St. Cloud State, 6-2, in the first round.
• The Terriers return four of their top five scorers from 2020-21 in Jay O'Brien, Luke Tuch, Domenick Fensore, and Robert Mastrosimone.
• Drew Commesso appeared in 11 games last season. The sophomore goaltender posted a 2.99 GAA and .915 save percentage, while winning six games for the Terriers.
The Series with Boston University
• Maine and BU have squared off 135 times prior to Friday's contest, with BU holding an edge of 68-53-14 in the all-time series.
• The teams played a single game earlier this season in Agganis Arena. BU won the contest by a score of 5-0.
• The Black Bears and Terriers first met during the 1923-24 season, with the Black Bears taking that contest, 4-2.
• Maine held an 11-game winning streak against the Terriers from Oct. 31, 1986 to Nov. 10, 1989.
