Maine Men's and Women's Track Teams Win First Meet over UNH, Bates

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's and women's team both won their first meet of the season, Sunday, when they hosted the University of New Hampshire and Bates College. Maine's men;s team scored 129, tied with Bates, while the women scored 134 for the outright win. 

On the men's side, third-year Mozai Nelson won the 200m with a time of 22.05, while fourth-year Joseph Slattery finished in third with a time of 22.46. Fourth-year Jake Osborn finished in first in the 400m with a time of 50.66. Third-year Elijah Yeboah finished second in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 16.25, and also finished in first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.95. 

In the 800m, second-year Tucker Corbett finished in first with a time of 1:57.81. Third-year Jacob Johns finished in third with a time of 1:59.76. In the 1500m, fourth-year Levi Frye finished in second with a time of 4:07.99, while second-year Simon Powhida finished in fourth with a time of 4:09.90. 

In the 5000m, Maine went one-two-three with fourth-year Jesse Orach finishing in first with a time of 14:26.92, followed by second-year Aaron Willingham at 15:04.75, rounded out by third-year Joshua Horne who finished in 15:14.45. In the 10,000m, Fourth-year Justin Tracy finished in second with a time of 32:04.32. 

In the high jump, fourth-year Asaad Hicks finished in second with a top jump of 1.90m, while first-year Troy Davis finished in third with a top jump of 1.90m. In the men's long jump, Davis finished in second with a top jump of 6.15m. In the shot put, third-year Jeremy Frantz finished in third with a top throw of 14.33m. 

Third-year Adam Lufkin finished in second in the men's discus with a top throw of 43.51m, followed by fourth-year Shane Corbett who threw 43.47m. Third-year Kelby Mace won the javelin with a top throw of 63.58m. 

On the women's side, first-year Cassidy Hill finished in second with a time of 12.56. Hill also finished in first in the 4x100m. 

In the 200m, fourth-year Teal Jackson finished in first with a time of 26.42. Jackson also finished first in the 4x100m, 4x400m and second inb the 400m with a time of 1:01.35. 

In the 800m, first-year Tiffany Tanner finished in first with a time of 2:20.26. In the 1500m, fourth-year Naomi Holzhauer finished in third with a time of 4:49.82. First-year Alison Wyman finished in second in the 5000m with a time of 19:02.57. Second-year Faith Gardner finished in third with a time of 19:13.80. 

In the pole vault, second-year Taylor Lenentine finished in third with a top jump of 3.20m. In the long jump, second-year Ariel Clachar won with a top jump of 5.51m. Second-year Lucia Guarnieri finished the triple jump in second with a top jump of 10.34m. 

Fourth-year Ashley Donohoe finished in first in the shot put with a top throw of 12.22m, and also in the discus with a top throw of 39.78m. Third-year Rachel Bergeron finished in second in the discus with a top throw of 39.30m, while also winning the hammer throw with a top throw of 55.10m. 

The Black Bear's next track meet is at the University of Maimi on April 7th.
