Orono, Maine --Â The University of Maine track and Field teams competed at the first day of the Pennsylvania Relays on Thursday.
On the women's side, third-year
Rachel Bergeron broke the Penn Relays hammer throw with a top-throw of 59.43m, but finished in second overall to Auburn's Brianna Heilsnis who threw 60.38m. The previous record was 59.30m.
The women's 4x100m team finished in 37th place out of 78 teams with a time of 47.80. The relay team consisted of fourth-year
Teal Jackson, second-year
Lauren Magnuson, second-year
Ariel Clachar, and first-year
Cassidy Hill.
Clachar later finished in 14th in the long jump with a top-jump of 5.58m.
On the men's side, fourth-year
Jesse Orach finished in 24th in the 5000m with a time of 14:36.84.
The Black Bears will be competing again Friday, as the men's 4x200m and 4x400m teams will be running, while the women's team will have competitors in the 4x200m relays and 100m hurdles.Â
