Football Falls in Opener at Boston College
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The University of Maine football team battled hard but fell to Atlantic Coast Conference member Boston College by the score of 34-3 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium. Maine falls to 0-1 while BC improves to 1-1.
Maine got on the board first when Brian Harvey (Wayland, Mass.) completed a four play, 16-yard drive with a 19 yard field goal with 4:13 left in the first quarter.
The Eagles responded with a pair of touchdowns midway through the second quarter with quarterback Chase Rettig completing passes to Spiffy Evans and Jonathan Coleman.
Boston College took a 17-3 lead into halftime as Nate Freese kicked a 39-yard field goal with just over a minute remaining.
The Eagles notched a field goal and a pair of touchdowns to take a 34-3 lead into the fourth quarter.
Michael Cole (North Brunswick, N.J.) led the Black Bear defense with a pair of sacks and a forced fumble. Donte Dennis (Rahway, N.J.) notched a team-high 9.5 tackles.
Marcus Wasilewski (Kulpmont, Pa.) was 20-42 for 134 yards while Maurice McDonald (Paterson, N.J.) caught six passes for 37 yards. David Hood (Galloway, N.J.) had 64 yards on the ground.
Maine returns to action next Saturday at Bryant.
