Men's Basketball Travels to America East Tournament
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- The University of Maine men's basketball team heads to the America East Tournament as the third seed to take on the sixth-seed Hartford Hawks. Fans can catch all the action on the Black Bear Sports Network.
The University of Maine men's basketball team (15-14, 9-7), the third seed, plays the Hartford Hawks (10-19, 7-9), the sixth seed, in an America East Tournament Quarterfinal.
Should the Black Bears come out victorious, they would play the winner of second-seed Boston University (18-13, 12-4) and seventh-seed New Hampshire (12-17, 6-10).
The Black Bears fell in both games to Hartford this season by scores of 61-59 in Orono and 74-65 in Hartford.
The Black Bears were led by Gerald McLemore who averaged 15.5 points in the two games.
Maine is is coming off a tough 81-77 loss to Albany in the regular season finale.
The Black Bears were led by Troy Barnies who had 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Maine has clinched a top-3 seed for the second-consecutive season, making it the first time since the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons that Maine has notched back-to-back top-3 finishes in America East.
With Maine's win on the road at New Hampshire, the Black Bears now rank among the top-20 teams nationally in road wins after finishing among the top-10 in that category last season.
Should McLemore finish the season with his free throw percentage higher than 87.4 percent, he would set the school record for free throw percentage in a season, beating out Skip Chappelle's percent set during the 1961-62 season
