Current Student-Athletes
As a University of Maine student- athlete, you need to be mindful of many NCAA, CAA, America East, Hockey East, and University of Maine rules and regulations that could affect you. The purpose of this website is to help you understand these rules and also describe certain procedures you must follow (i.e. SAF, Transfer Procedures). In addition to this website, please also reference your Student-Athlete Handbook for additional information.
Current Student-Athlete:
An enrolled (current) student-athlete is a student whose enrollment was solicited by a member of the athletics staff or an athletics representative with a view toward the student's ultimate participation in the intercollegiate athletics program. Any other student becomes a student-athlete only when the student reports for an intercollegiate squad that is under the jurisdiction of the athletics department.
Compliance
- Eligibility meeting- PowerPoint presentation at pre-season compliance meeting on NCAA, conference, and institutional rules, regulations, and policies. All paperwork must be complete and accurate!
- NCAA Initial Eligibility Center certification (Freshman only)
- NCAA International Form completed and verified (International students only).
Sports Medicine
- Physical from a University of Maine physician or appointed consultant
- Insurance paperwork
- Pre-entrance Physical
- Health Questionnaire
Amateurism
To remain eligible for NCAA competition student-athletes are required to maintain amateur status. A student-athlete will lose his/her amateur status, and thus jeopardize his/her eligibility if he/she does any of the following:
- Uses his or her athletics skills, either directly or indirectly, for pay in any form in the sport in which he/she competes;
- Accepts a promise of pay, even if such pay is to be received following completion of intercollegiate athletics participation;
- Signs a contract, or verbally gives a commitment of any kind to play professional athletics, regardless of its legal enforceability;
- Receives, directly or indirectly, a salary, reimbursement of expenses, or any other form of financial assistance from a professional sports organization based upon athletics skill or participation, except as permitted by NCAA rules and regulations;
