Reichenbach Signs Three-Year Contract Extension

ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine women's ice hockey head coach Richard Reichenbach has signed a three-year extension, UMaine Interim Athletics Director Jim Settele announced today.

"I am honored and humbled to sign an extension at UMaine," Reichenbach said. "To work around the character of people and continue to push for excellence is a dream come true at Maine where hockey is large part of the culture on campus and around the state. Our program is an excellent position to continue to grow and reach new levels and as a staff we can not wait to get back on the ice with our dedicated, diverse, driven student-athletes that we are fortunate enough to work with every day. It is a special time to be on campus with many programs growing and achieving success in their respective leagues and we love being around that pursuit of championships as a department. I want to thank President Susan Hunter, Interim Athletic Director Jim Settele and Senior Associate Director of Athletics Lynn Coutts in their support of our mission of building outstanding leaders and growing this program to reach it's full potential on and off the ice."

Reichenbach wrapped up his fifth season at the helm by leading the Black Bears to one of the best years in program history. Under his tutelage, Reichenbach guided the team to an overall record of 19-14-5 and a mark of 11-9-4 in WHEA play. Picked last in the preseason poll, Maine finished third in the league's final regular season standings. Maine was nationally ranked for six weeks this season, set a program record for wins in a season and also earned the program's first-ever playoff victory and first-ever playoff series win in the best-of-three quarterfinal round against Boston University. Maine advanced as far as the conference tournament semifinals before bowing out to eventual champion Northeastern.

Following the 2018 campaign, Reichenbach was named the New England Hockey Writers Division I Coach of the Year after earning Women's Hockey East Coach of the Year honors.
