Orono, Maine -- University of Maine women's ice hockey is happy to announce the addition of forward Kara Washer for the 2016-17 season.
Washer, a strong and powerful forward who can score, hails from New Lowell, Ontario. She spent the last three years playing for the Barrie Sharks of the Provincial Women's Hockey league in Ontario. In 125 games, Washer tallied 49 goals and 31 assists for a total of 80 points. During her first year in the PWHL, as one of the youngest players in the league, she finished with an impressive 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points. In her 11th grade year, she finished tied for eighth in scoring with 20 goals and followed that up with a 12th-place goal scoring performance with 15.
"Kara will add strength, size and an offensive touch to our lineup," said assistant coach
Sara Reichenbach. "She has a great shot and has tremendous confidence around the opposing net. Her presence on the ice will be felt in every game by using her size, shot, puck movement and her natual ability to put the puck in the net. She has continued to develop each year to make herself a complete player. We have always been impressed with Kara's ability to make an offensive play out of a situation where it looks like nothing is going to happen. Maine was always Kara's first choice and a school she loved from the moment she learned about it. It has been a long wait to get Kara to campus and I know she is excited and honored to represent Maine."
