Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team is thrilled to announce the addition of defenseman Ebba Strandberg to the roster for the 2016-2017 season.
Strandberg is from Kalmar, Sweden and has played for MODO hockey club in the Riksserien league in Sweden for the past three seasons. Her MODO team made it to the championship round the three years that she was part of the team. The team's most successful performance came in Ebba's first year when it made it all the way to the final before losing a tough contest. Strandberg also played for the Swedish U18 national team for three world junior tournaments and was named captain for the 2013-2014 team that participate in Budapest.
"Standing a 6-1, Ebba will add size to Maine's already big defense core," said assistant coach
Sara Reichenbach. "Ebba is a player that will bring many different skills to the team. She is big, can skate, has great vision and moves the puck extremely well. Ebba will not only generate a lot of offense for us, but will also be great defensively. Because she moves the puck so well, she will create many breakouts by having successful first passes."
