Women's Ice Hockey Announces Addition of Defenseman Brittany Colton

Colton to join the Black Bears for 2016-17 season

Orono, Maine -- University of Maine head women's ice hockey coach Richard Reichenbach has announced the addition of defenseman Brittany Colton for the 2016-17 season.

Colton hails from Groton, Mass. and played for Lawrence Academy and the East Coast Wizards club team. Colton captained her Lawrence team this past year and was an all-league player her junior and senior season. She also attended multiple USA Hockey national development camps.

"Brittany is a powerful, smart right handed defenseman," said Reichenbach. "We recognized a special ability to play both ends of the ice well and we felt her positioning on defense was advanced. We were impressed with her ability to communicate with the coaching staff and it was clear after her visit she was meant to be a Black Bear. Her smart defensive play combined with her strength allows her to push opponents off the puck and move the puck up the ice quickly. That, combined with her offensive upside, makes us as a staff excited to see her play at Maine next season."
