Orono, Maine -- Head coach
Richard Barron and the University of Maine women's basketball program have announced the signing of Kelly Fogarty. Fogarty, a 5-9 guard from Walpole, Mass., has completed her National Letter of Intent and will join the Black Bears in the fall of 2017.
"Kelly is a terrific young woman and a dedicated and successful student who will fit in very well with our program," commented Barron. "She is a tremendous 3-point shooter with seemingly unlimited range. We are thrilled with her decision to join us and ask that you all give her a big Black Bear Nation welcome!"
Fogarty, a two-time first team Bay State All-League All-Star, averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists during her junior season at Walpole. As a sophomore, Fogarty averaged 15.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg and 3.0 assists while guiding her team to a league championship. In the summer of 2016, she averaged 20.0 ppg as a member of the MCW Starz AAU team.
Fogarty has earned several accolades from her outside shooting. A two-time Oliver Ames All-Tourney team selection and Roundball Classic All-Star, she is the Walpole high record holder for 3-point field goals. A two-time captain, Fogarty is the three-time winner of
Shot For Life in which she was named the best shooter in Massachusetts as part of the special fundraising shooting competition.
A member of the student council and national honor society, Fogarty has earned honors marks for every semester in high school and plans to major in biology at the University of Maine.
